Problem
How might we design a robot to write on rough, unpredictable terrain?
Solution
A compact, wheeled robot with a pressure-controlled chalk delivery system and adjustable arm.
Key Features
- Autonomous pathfinding
- Chalk pressure control
- Responsive arm for uneven surfaces

Project Overview
Developed in the cross-disciplinary Integrated Product Development studio, ChalkBot is an autonomous chalk-drawing robot that encourages retirees to reconnect with creativity, play, and community.
The project examines how thoughtful form, intuitive interaction, and inclusive design principles can merge to create a product that sparks joy while addressing user needs around accessibility and ease of use.

Project Overview
Developed in the Integrated Product Development (IPD) program at the University of Michigan, ChalkBot invites adults aged 55–75 to rediscover outdoor play through creativity.
Compact, portable, and intuitive — it draws sports lines or artistic designs with chalk through two key modes:
ChalkSport → prints precise game boundaries
ChalkArt → transfers custom text or image stencils
Awarded 1st Place Overall at the IPD trade show for desirability, feasibility, and viability.
