Created in a rapid prototyping sprint during the EDI pre-program, RibbitRack is a functional drying rack inspired by the charm and efficiency of frog-like forms.
It explores how playful aesthetics can merge with practical household utility, translating character, form, and user-centered considerations into a tangible, counter-worthy object designed for everyday use.
Project Overview

The Story
A few weeks before the project began, I helped a friend move into a new apartment and noticed she had no place to hang her laundry. Watching her improvise with chairs and doorknobs stuck with me and made me want to create something that could make her daily routine easier and more joyful. That small moment of noticing her need became the inspiration for the Ribbit Rack.
Sketched early concepts and refined the form through quick paper and cardboard prototypes
Modeled the final geometry in SolidWorks to test proportions and folding mechanics
Prepared toolpaths and cut components on the CNC router, adjusting feeds and speeds for clean edges
Sanded, fitted, and assembled the wooden pieces to ensure balance and stability
Spray-painted the rack for a smooth, even finish that emphasized its playful character
Airbrushed the lily pad to have a wet appearance
Laser-cut acrylic circles for the eyes and hand-painted them black before attaching them as the final detail
